Installing a upvc window

A nail bar will be required to remove sash style windows. Then crack the glass from the frame, starting at the top left corner. Be sure to wear gloves and goggles for this to avoid injury. Using a Stanley knife, cut through the plaster seal around the window frame then use a crosscut saw to cut through horizontal and vertical frame members. Finally, use your nail bar to pry the frame away from the plaster line.

Place the windowsill onto the brickwork. The uprights should sit flush against the plaster line of the jambs. If required, cut the sill horns to fit around the brickwork. Using plastic packers, level the sill with 5mm clearance from the brickwork then secure the sill to the brickwork using 8xmm fixing bolts.

These should be positioned approximately mm from each end and then at mm intervals. Check the level as you go and be sure not to overtighten the fixing bolts. Place a bead of silicone along the back edge of the upstand and then use superglue to secure the end caps into position.

If the sill horns have been trimmed, the end caps will need trimming to match. In the latter case, you have to remove first the openers the components of the window which open , then the glass and last the window frame. Removing the frame might be a little difficult, but you have to proceed in such a manner as to minimize damage to walls.

The first step when installing a PVC window is to take accurate measurement. Therefore, use a tape measurement and take the dimensions in width both at the bottom and the top and height both left and right. Remember than when ordering the window, always use the smaller dimension the walls might be curved and the top might not match the bottom. After you receive the pvc window frame, openers and the glass, you have to install them. Use safety gloves and work attentively and with patience, as to get the job done properly.

In most of the cases, you will find useful to use shims under the PVC window, as well as around it, as to make sure you will set an even space from top to bottom. Next, you have to use a spirit level as to make sure the PVC window is plumb.

After you have aligned the PVC window inside the opening, you have to secure it to the walls with at least 2 screws on each side. Therefore, use a drill machinery and a long drill bit, as to make several holes in the wall. If you install the window around wood studs, you have to proceed in the same manner, but to use drill bits for wood. Using a level to make sure the window is plumb. Continue drilling holes in the window frame and use the spirit level, in order to make sure the window is plumb and aligned with the wall.

Work with patience as a beginner could compromise very easily the whole project. The essential aspect is to align the frame properly and insert the screws in a right manner. Once you have removed the old door you will have to install a uPVC door cill. Here you need a spirit level, drilling machine, screw driver and long screws measuring at least 15cm. Then drill holes in the uPVC door frame. Make sure that you do not bend the frame in the process. Fasten the door frame by inserting the long screws using an electric screwdriver.

Use a spirit level while installing the door to make sure that it is aligned properly also plumb. If you are replacing an old door, make sure that the measurements are precisely the same as the old measurements, but the door should be 0. But if you are installing the door at a new house, then leave space around it so that you can easily plaster the brick walls.

Lock the frame into position by fastening it with at least 3 screws on each side and 2 at the top and bottom of the door cill. With regards to the gap between the door and the wall, you will have to use sealant or polyurethane foam. Where else if space is less, use the sealant used on a regular basis.

Select a waterproof sealant, so it can be painted to suit your interior design. Start applying the sealant from corner to the beam till you reach the opposite corner. The sealant generally takes 15 to 30 minute to dry out. Keep checking the dimension of the sill,to make sure that correct at the bottom, top, and middle. If not you can still loosen or tighten the screws to get the perfect dimension. Once you have got the equal and correct dimension, you can install the door panel.
