God knows that the man gave her many avenues to open up lines of communication, but she preferred to wallow in self pity and allow her pride to dictate the course of her destiny.

It was the same issue in Fated Affair when that heroine refused to open her mouth and confront the H about their big past conflict; that heroine married the guy and still refused to discuss what had happened to break them up in the past. In this novel, China thinks that Ben is having an affair with Olivia but never confronts him with her suspicions.

But that doesn't stop her from engaging in heavy make out sessions with him. One minute she's all hot and bothered and the next she's spitting fire and insulting him. The poor guy didn't know whether he was coming or going when he was with this girl! Some of these repetitive comments, interspersed at random points in the novel, included: "Go away! If you want me to go, I'll go, but make up your mind. He was thoroughly confused and couldn't understand what he'd done to be on the receiving end of this crap.

He'd been so hurt by her attitude and her reluctance to tell him what's bothering her, but he'd respected her need for privacy and didn't act like a jerkish asshole. In fact, it was obvious that he was still besotted with her: He had wanted to kiss her, touch her, hold her, she knew, but she deliberately warded off any suggestion of physical contact, until he got the message, and his beautiful mouth tightened, the rest of their conversation being short and to the point.

Then he had gone, in angry silence, and China had thought her heart would break as his car pulled down the drive. But Ben, this H, was absolutely besotted with this ninny heroine. In fact, aside from a few occasions where he spoke harshly to her and which, in my opinion, were warranted , the guy treated her with charm and chivalry.

On that occasion, the heroine acted like a spoilt rude brat; instead of apologizing to the H since she was obviously in the wrong, she lashed out at him like a vicious harpy. The heroine, to be a little fair to her, was very insecure because of the childhood she'd spent in an orphanage. I think she found it difficult to believe that anyone would want her for herself, even though she was beautiful. And, her previous emotionally traumatic experience with a lecherous former employer had made her wary of men.

Her former employer had tried to rape her and his wife, who'd been her friend, hadn't even supported her after the incident. China was also unable to fight back against the vicious, rude OW. Olivia, the wannabe OW, was married to Ben best friend Charles but it was clear that she wanted the H.

But Ben was not attracted to Olivia, had never had an affair with her and didn't even like the woman. This was confirmed at the end when China finally had the courage to confront him: "You were having an affair with Olivia Daniels," she said, her voice clear with defiance, satisfied at the shock she saw in his eyes. How could there have been? I don't understand," she faltered, utterly confused, a tiny seed of hope bursting inside her, heating her whole body as she stared at him, her lovely eyes wide with innocence.

She obviously cheated continually on her oblivious husband Charles, whom she belittled in front of fellow dinner guests and she was also guilty of one misdemeanour that always riles the F out of me: lack of proper accepted social etiquette.

I'm by no means perfect but if there's one I loathe it's rudeness in people in circumstances that require polite human responses like: saying Thank You when you're given a compliment or when a waiter brings your food etc And yes, I am aware that it's verbal or is it situational?

It's just that I think if I compliment someone on a job well done, that person ought to be polite enough to say either "Thanks" or respond in another appropriate manner. But, suffice it to say that I've learned my lesson and will never ever be complimentary, sweet and nice to that individual again Anyway, where was I before I went off on that self righteous, irrelevant, crazy bitch tirade Yeah, I was talking about Olivia's rude hagwitchy attitude. The wannabe OW was such an uncouth harridan that she insulted the heroine publicly at the dinner table: "Such a novel idea, having the paid help sitting down to dinner— you're quite a liberal at heart, Ben my love.

This is the H, Ben: This is the heroine, China: Olivia was such an adulterous whorebag that she even forced her way into the H's bedroom and offered him sex, while her husband was sleeping like an oblivious baby! The H kicked her sluttypuss out of his room but unfortunately, China saw her while she was on her way out and she went out of her way to give the heroine the wrong impression.

Instead of confronting Ben, the heroine spent all her time wallowing in depression, crying in her room or being angry with him because she'd fallen in love by this time. After this happened, China ran away to Greece to work at James' new hotel. James was the H's affable younger brother who'd had a crush on China. At this point in the story, however, James had found himself a new lady love: Olivia!

This guy was such a lamb when compared to the manipulative OW. She'd thrown herself at the H and after he'd rejected her, she decided to make an offer to his baby brother. That woman's vagina must surely be exhausted, like a banged up tennis ball, from all the repetitive back and forth action it keeps getting Yeah, I know how wrong it sounds but when I'm in a pissy mood, it's the stupid, dirty, rude jokes that make me feel better quickly.

There's a lot of trainwrecky emotional drama that ensued due to more silly misunderstandings: 1. The H followed China to Greece, where he was filled with obsessive, possessive jealousy because he believed that she was in love with his brother James. The proud heroine refused to clarify the situation by telling the man the truth and sparing his poor besotted broken heart from further disintegration. James swore China to secrecy about his new fiancee Olivia.

The heroine also believed that Olivia was two-timing both brothers! It was all very entertaining, though, especially the OTT scene where the H punches out a drunk guy who is sexually harassing China.

I've mentioned it many times before, but I love a besotted H who's a knight in alpha male armour for the woman he loves: Blind and shaking with fear, China screamed as loudly and as piercingly as she could, and in the next second, as if in a dream, she saw Ben's cold furious face, his golden eyes narrow intimidating slits, his powerful body threatening violence as he spun the other man round to face him, his fist crashing against the drunk's jaw with a sickening thud.

So, unfortunately, this author seems allergic to providing comeuppance to hagbitchy OW, and, Olivia will probably make James' life a hellish cuckolded nightmare, just like with her first husband, until she divorces him for another dumb bastard.

I wished the H had intervened and spoken to his brother about this woman but James' probably wouldn't have listened anyway. He actually defended Olivia's rudeness to China, by saying that the OW was "shy".

He'd definitely have his hands full coping with this heroine, though, because she's the type who's so insecure that she'll need thrice daily affirmation of his love, devotion and loyalty. Both MC's are separate during their short separation. There are a few heavy make out scenes but no sex occurs in this story. View all 25 comments. Mar 25, Tia rated it it was ok. For an old school harlequin, I wasn't too impressed. I've read a lot better, especially by Patricia Lake. While the novel was one big misunderstanding, it was hard to read and take.

I felt horrible for some of the characters and wanted Olivia to get her comeuppance, which never happened. May 26, Cerulean rated it liked it. But when, against her better judgment, China fell in love with him, she realized he was having an affair with the beautiful m He wanted her body, she wanted his love China was delighted when James Galloway announced he was going to hire a housekeeper for his brother and China could have the job. Nov 28, JpointOfview rated it did not like it. Not bad but I thought the book unsatisfying.

Aug 29, Debby rated it really liked it. The woman is named China, but she has no relation with the country China at all. All the time I was looking for something that would explain why her name is China, but nothing at all. The book is filled with the moodswings of China.

One minute she asks him to kiss her and the next minute she insults him. And I think I have never read about a woman who cries as much as China. She bursts into tears every second or so. China is so annoying. To enhance your user experience, support technical features, and personalize content and ads, this site uses cookies. An open platform for all web games!
