The Office of Policy offers unpaid internships for interested graduate including masters, law, and other doctoral programs and undergraduate students. Office of Policy interns have had diverse educational interests, such as law, public health, public policy, pharmacy, government, economics, and management.
Our interns have worked on a broad range of issues including human subject protection, food safety, nanotechnology, drug importation, novel disease outbreak issues, legislative analysis, regulation and guidance drafting, and briefings for senior agency officials.
An Office of Policy intern can expect to work on substantive policy and legal projects, develop additional professional skills, improve research skills, and benefit from the personal attention of a mentor. The Office of Policy has a limited number of internships. The primary purpose of the Office of Policy internship program is to give students an opportunity to learn about federal programs, public policy, and regulatory and governmental practices first-hand.
We do work with interns to help them earn educational credits, if available through their educational institution. By the end of the internship, each student should have the skills and knowledge necessary to allow her or him to make a significant contribution to public health.
The privacy program is challenging and uniquely positioned to provide a valuable and interesting experience as it is an element of nearly every Agency program. Information privacy interns can expect to work on substantive matters, develop professional skills, gain first-hand knowledge of FDA and government programs, policies and procedures, and, benefit from the personal attention of a mentor.
Internships may be tailored to focus on subject matter that is an Agency priority and of special interest to the intern. DFOI invites students interested in law, government, and information privacy and security to apply. The office is located one block from the Twinbrook Station on the local Metrorail system. The purpose of the Federal Information Privacy Internship Program is to give students an opportunity to learn about federal programs and policies with a focus on the application of privacy laws, regulations and policies.
The internship will equip students with the skills and knowledge to make a significant contribution to FDA's privacy program and public health mission. Privacy interns will learn about the major FDA programs: foods, drugs, devices, biologics, veterinary products, tobacco and enforcement. Intern activities may include conducting legal research, drafting Federal Register publications, participating in information management programs, review of legislation, Executive Orders, Office of Management and Budget materials, and policy documents issued by the Department of Health and Human Services and FDA.
Candidates should have a record of strong academic achievement. Experience or interest in information privacy, public health issues, or regulatory matters is helpful.
