Worn out coupling on a Dremel rotary tool. Unscrew the front cap and remove 6 torx head screws. Pull the top piece with bearings out. Remove old coupling and install new one. Clean up tool with soft bristle brush and air, then put back together?

The flexible coupling between the motor shaft and the output shaft of the Dremel tool had disintegrated. I found through Google that this coupling failure for the Dremel model is well-known. Presumably in most cases its age-related I think this tool has been around for many years. In any event, the repair is very simple, using the coupler supplied by ereplacementparts. I bought two additional spares - just in case. I removed the two brushes, using a small, flat-bladed screwdriver.

In retrospect, it isn't clear that this needs to be done. The nose piece unscrews from the front of the Dremel tool, revealing two torx screws. There are four additional torx screws visible that hold the two body shell halves together six screws altogether. After removing the torx screws 15 , I pulled the shell off - taking care to leave the motor and output shaft undisturbed in the other half of the shell 5.

The flexible coupling has splines molded in that match the splines on the motor shaft and the output shaft. The output shaft needs to be removed so the coupling will slide on to the motor shaft and then the output shaft. Since the coupling is flexible, its pretty easy to get the coupling on and the output shaft put back in place. Reassemble the two shell halves, reinsert and tighten the six torx screws and then reinstall the nose piece. Reinstall the two motor brushes - if they were removed initially.

The motor turns on but the spindle does not rotate. With a flat head screwdriver remove the 2 motor brushes from each side. Next unscrew the spindle bezel from the tool by hand. This reveals two other Phillips head screws. Remove all the screws, and carefully separate the case. The spindle snaps out remove the old rotten coupling and slide the new one on to the spindle.

Then attach to the motor shaft. Snap the spindle bearings in place. And reassemble in reverse order. The old coupling of my Moto-tool had disentergrated. Very Easy! Dremel Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone Dremel Accessory Kit Universal Adapter MM Make More with Dremel.

Greg Holloway , if you want to try "smoothing" TPU, I suggest starting with something slightly abrasive, like a dremel hard felt tip that would normally be used with a polishing compound, but in this case you use it dry I have erased layer lines in TPU using a dremel tool with a hard felt tip; this was for making toys that a child could throw and would not break.

I am wondering about extruding small 12mm O. Nylon-CF gears and then cutting the teeth with the milling bit.
